Celebrating its 10th anniversary in 2023, Lysverket is a modern Norwegian restaurant, located in the venerable former head quarters of Bergen Lysverker. Run by chef/owner Christopher Haatuft, it was recently awarded its first Michelin star.

The restaurant was featured in the New York Times in 2017 as "redefining Nordic Cuisine", and offers a single 10-course menu with a natural focus on local seafood, such as handpicked scallops from diver and longtime collaborator Knut Magnus Persson – you will also find dry-aged meat and seasonable vegetable dishes on the menu. An extensive wine list with sustainable farmed wines, lets you choose gems from regions like the Jura and Burgundy, or you can go for one of the wide-ranging pairings.

Christopher simultaneously runs the project MatTak together with local gardener Sigurd Boasson. Their goal is to spread knowledge about growing food and finding solutions for issues caused by climate change. The idea is to grow food on rooftops throughout the city to manage the impacts of heavy rain, while at the same time provide locally sourced produce for restaurants and residents of Bergen. Lysverket uses vegetables grown locally by MatTak, helping reduce the restaurant’s environmental impact.
